How Daylight Savings Time Changes Can Throw Your Baby's Wake-Up Schedule Off

Adjusting your sleep is hard enough as an adult when the daylight savings time changes happen. What happens when you have a kid who doesn’t care what time is on the clock? Let’s go through an example.

Baby wakes up at 6 am regularly. In the spring, the time changes ahead one hour, so after the time change now baby wakes up when the clock shows 7am. Parents who wake up at 6 am regularly and instantly adjust to the new 6 am time and are now waking up earlier because 5 am became 6 am at least get an hour break before baby wakes up at 7am.

Let’s assume baby adjusts back to their normal 6 am wake up time over the summer.

In the autumn, the clock changes back one hour, so now baby wakes up at 5am. Parents who wake up at 6 am regularly and instantly adjust to the new 6 am time and are now waking up later because 7 am became 6 am lose an hour break before baby wakes up at 5am.
